VADAKKENCHERRY – In a vibrant display of civic duty and youth mobilization, the students and faculty of the College of Applied Science (IHRD), Vadakkencherry, organized a massive walkathon to promote voter awareness. Held under the banner of SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation), the event aimed to sensitize the public about the upcoming Kerala Legislative Assembly Elections 2026.
"My Vote, My Pride" – The resonance of this slogan was felt across the town as hundreds of students marched to ensure no voter is left behind. The event commenced at Cherupushpam, where students gathered in large numbers, donning white SVEEP t-shirts. The rally was graced by the Assistant Collector of Palakkad, who served as the chief guest.

In his keynote address, the Assistant Collector emphasized the critical role of young voters in a healthy democracy. "The strength of our nation lies in the hands of its informed citizens. As students of a premier technical institution, you are the ambassadors who must bridge the gap between technology and civic engagement," he stated before officially flagging off the walkathon. Following the chief guest, Principal Jayamohan Sir addressed the gathering. He highlighted that education is not confined to the classroom but extends to social responsibility. He urged the students to not only ensure their own registration but to act as catalysts for 100% voter turnout in their respective neighborhoods.

The walkathon, accompanied by the traditional and energetic beats of the Chendamelam, moved from Cherupushpam toward the Vadakkencherry Bus Stand. The rhythmic drumming drew residents and shopkeepers out to the streets, effectively capturing the town's attention.
Students carried a massive banner titled "COUNT ON KERALA", representing Palakkad as the "Gateway to Democracy." The visual impact of the long line of students, paired with placards and rhythmic chants, turned the busy stretch into a moving classroom for voter education.
The climax of the event took place at the Vadakkencherry Bus Stand, the town’s busiest hub. In a powerful display of unity, the participants gathered to take the Voter’s Pledge.

With right hands extended, students and officials alike swore to uphold the democratic traditions of India and the dignity of free, fair, and peaceable elections. The pledge focused on voting in every election "fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement."
The SVEEP Walkathon successfully transformed a routine morning into a significant civic lesson for the local community. By focusing on SVEEP Strategy IV, the College of Applied Science Vadakkencherry has set a benchmark for how educational institutions can partner with the Election Commission of India to tackle youth apathy and promote ethical voting.
As the 2026 Assembly Elections approach, the message from CAS Vadakkencherry remains clear: Every step counts, and every vote matters.
